I found this great digital whiteboard somebody designed, for illustration purposes which uses the mini IR Camera in every WiiMote and some software, plus you need to build a small IR pointer from an old pen. I built mine simply by wiring up an IR LED with resistor (about 80ohms), a small switch, and a 2xAA battery pack all stuffed into an old pen.All credit goes to Johnny Chung Lee of Carnegie Mellon HCI institute for this system. No need to take the WiiMote apart. The PC talks to it (and vice versa) over bluetooth. Nothing shown has required any modification of the WiiMote in any way.

hmm, so you could actually try a usb camera (sensitive to ir.)? or possibly mount the screen so that the camera looks from behind through the paper . Anyway its impressive

well u can kind of see at the start of the vid where I placed the Wiimote. It didn't move from there for the whole vid.I'd estimate roughly 2 - 3 metres from the centre point of the projected image. Not far, I know.It should be relatively easy picking up good bright IR LEDs on Ebay or something. The key thing is to match the wavelength, eg 840nm or 880nm with whatever wavelength the wiimote is most sensitive with - I dont know which but some experiments sound in order...Thx 4 your comments

Nice video! Liked the colorful fancy drawings you made with the IR pen :) Since I am too having a range problem with my IR LED:s I would have liked to know where you placed your WiiMOte in order to make it work as neatly as it did.
